New Questline Report Offers First-Ever Apples-to-Apples Comparisons for Utility Email Metrics

Energy utilities can now see how they stack up.

Columbus, Ohio, 11 November 2014 – What can 122 million emails reveal about energy utility communications? Questline’s 2014 Energy Utility Email Benchmarks Report has the answer. The new report provides energy communicators with an apples-to-apples comparison of their company’s email metrics against overall industry metrics. Supplied with this key data, utilities can pinpoint where their emails are succeeding and where they could improve their engagement approach.

“We pulled from our industry-leading database of energy utility metrics to create this report,” John Keep, Vice President of Products, said. “The report is a natural extension of the deep, detailed analysis we do, packaged in an accessible, straightforward format for busy communications professionals.”

The report breaks down email delivery rate, open rate, click-through rate and click-to-open rate by type of utility, email and audience. Utilities include electric cooperatives, investor-owned, municipalities and, for the purposes of this report, gas utilities. Emails consist of newsletters, promotional program emails, outage communications and, for communications falling outside of those categories, an ancillary category. Audiences include residential customers, small business customers, large business customers and, for investor-owned utilities, trade allies.

“This report really answers that common ‘How do I compare?’ question many of our clients have asked us,” Susan Kownacki, Director of Account Services, said. “We plan on updating these benchmarks annually to give our clients a fresh look at key metrics each year.”
